IAWAI Launches $200 Million Southern Wastewater Treatment Plant in Hamilton
IAWAI is managing a $200 million Southern Wastewater Treatment Plant project to address wastewater capacity issues in Hamilton and surrounding areas. The project aims to support the growing population and will involve extensive planning and community engagement. Construction is anticipated to begin within the next decade, with Hamilton City Council allocating $7 million for initial investigations.

IAWAI has initiated the $200 million Southern Wastewater Treatment Plant project to alleviate wastewater capacity constraints for Hamilton, Waikato, and Waipā. As part of the Government's Local Water Done Well framework, IAWAI was formed to oversee water services and large infrastructure projects.
The facility will address population growth pressures and support development in various areas, including Hamilton Airport. A preferred site has been identified, and Hamilton City Council has allocated $7 million for planning and land designation, with construction expected to begin within the next decade.
