Idemitsu Begins Construction of Solid-Electrolyte Pilot Plant for Toyota's EVs
Idemitsu Kosan has announced the construction of a pilot plant for solid electrolytes, crucial for solid-state lithium-ion batteries, in collaboration with Toyota Motor. The facility, located at Idemitsu's Chiba plant, aims to support Toyota's goal of launching electric vehicles with all-solid-state batteries by 2027-2028, with a production capacity of several hundred metric tons per year. Chiyoda Corp. has been contracted for the construction, which is expected to be completed by 2027.

Idemitsu Kosan has made a final investment decision to construct a pilot plant for solid electrolytes, essential for solid-state lithium-ion batteries. This facility, in collaboration with Toyota Motor, aims to support the automaker's goal of launching electric vehicles with all-solid-state batteries by 2027-2028.
Idemitsu is developing mass-production technology and currently manufacturing samples at two demonstration facilities. The new pilot plant will have a production capacity of several hundred metric tons per year, with construction at the Chiba plant near Tokyo expected to be completed by 2027. Chiyoda Corp. is contracted for the construction.
