IDF Seeks to Procure 12,000 Assault Drones Amid Rising Drone Warfare
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) plans to issue a tender for 12,000 assault drones, reflecting a strategic shift towards drone warfare against groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. This move comes as drone usage escalates in conflicts, notably with Hezbollah's recent increased drone operations.

The IDF and Ministry of Defense are preparing to procure 12,000 first-person-view (FPV) assault drones, with costs estimated between NIS 20,000 and 25,000 each, totaling up to NIS 30 million. This tender emphasizes a shift away from Chinese components, aiming for a more secure supply chain.
In contrast, Hezbollah successfully utilizes low-cost, domestically produced drones, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the IDF's procurement amid escalating drone warfare. Experts note that the number of drones sought in the tender is relatively modest compared to global production rates, particularly in Ukraine, where production exceeds 1 million per year. The evolving battlefield dynamics suggest that drone warfare will continue to intensify, necessitating a reassessment of military strategies.
