IDPRO Reports Indonesia's Data Center Capacity Below 1 Watt per Capita

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Indonesia Data Center Provider Organization (IDPRO) revealed that the current national data center capacity is below 1 watt per capita, lagging behind the growing digital economy needs. The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) aims to increase this capacity to approximately 2.81 watts per capita by 2026, a 91% increase from the 2025 target of 1.47 watts per capita.

The capacity is expected to rise to 4.18 watts in 2027, 5.53 watts in 2028, and 6.87 watts by 2029. IDPRO emphasizes the need for reliable green energy and investment in human resources to support these targets, highlighting challenges such as permit synchronization and infrastructure availability. Recommendations include creating a national data center roadmap and simplifying regulations for hyperscale facilities.
