IESO Nova Scotia Releases Draft Procurement Documents for Fast-Acting Natural Gas Generation Capacity
IESO Nova Scotia has made available draft procurement documents for its Request for Proposals and Tolling Agreement aimed at acquiring 300 megawatts of fast-acting natural gas generation capacity. This step allows stakeholders to provide feedback to improve clarity and support competitive bids.
The fast-acting plants are intended to supplement renewable energy and energy storage, ensuring reliable electricity supply when needed. The project aligns with Nova Scotia's Clean Power Plan and Integrated Resource Plan, targeting an 80% renewable energy goal and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. A Request for Expressions of Interest was issued in October 2025 for two facilities in Pictou County, and site evaluations are being conducted for environmental and community impacts.
