IFC Invests $275M in Argentina's Olavarría Wind Farm to Enhance Renewable Energy and Transmission Capacity
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is financing a $275 million wind power project in Argentina's Buenos Aires Province. The Olavarría Wind Farm, developed by Petroquímica Comodoro Rivadavia S.A. and Acindar Industria Argentina de Aceros S.A., will install 29 Vestas turbines with a total capacity of 185.6 MW.
The project will strengthen transmission infrastructure along the Bahía Blanca-Abasto corridor, integrating privately financed transmission into the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI). Once operational, it is expected to power 230,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by 320,000 metric tons annually. The initiative aims to create jobs and promote skills in renewable energy.
