IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Secures Patent for Copper Recovery Technology
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has obtained an Indian patent for an electrochemical technology that recovers copper from wastewater. This advancement supports sustainable treatment practices in the mining and metallurgical sectors.

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has been awarded Indian Patent No. 597420 for an electrochemical reactor that recovers copper from wastewater. The patent was granted on July 30, 2023, following an application submitted on November 29, 2022.
This technology utilizes a cathodic electrochemical process, providing a sustainable solution for industrial wastewater treatment, particularly in regions with heavy metal contamination. Led by Prof. Vipin Kumar, the research team aims to enhance resource recovery and wastewater management. The achievement underscores the institute's commitment to addressing environmental challenges through innovative solutions.
