IKEA Portugal has announced a new store opening in Coimbra at the Mondego Retail Park, set for summer 2026. This store will introduce a novel concept termed 'small but mighty', featuring inspirational shopping areas, a space for immediate purchases, and a Circular Area focused on the circular economy.

The store will also continue offering traditional food items, such as Swedish meatballs and hot dogs. Mayor Ana Abrunhosa emphasized the positive impact on local commerce and the city's attractiveness as a commercial hub. Carla Pereira, expansion director, noted the strategic potential of Coimbra following the success of the Planning Studio opened in 2021.
