Ilford Roadworks Project Achieves 75 Tonnes Carbon Savings with Low-Carbon Innovations
The Heathcote Avenue project in Ilford utilizes ultra-low-carbon cement, achieving a carbon reduction equivalent to driving around the world 11 times. This initiative integrates multiple sustainable practices, setting a benchmark for future roadworks in London.

The Heathcote Avenue project in Ilford is notable for being the first in London to implement ultra-low-carbon cement, specifically 'EVO zero' cement developed by Heidelberg. This project has achieved a carbon saving of 75 tonnes through various sustainable practices, including the construction of rain gardens, a more environmentally-friendly asphalt mix, recycled plastic kerbs, and solar-powered temporary traffic signals.
Kenson Highways executed the project, emphasizing collaboration with Redbridge Council to adopt innovative materials and technologies. The integration of these carbon-saving measures may influence future infrastructure projects, potentially leading to broader adoption of sustainable practices across the industry.
