Imperial County Completes $6.1M Niland Fire Recovery and Utility Enhancements
Imperial County finalizes $6.1 million in recovery efforts and utility upgrades in Niland, including five home reconstructions. This initiative demonstrates the effective allocation of CDBG funds for community rebuilding post-disaster.

The Imperial County Board of Supervisors concluded a $6.1 million project addressing recovery from the Niland fire and wastewater treatment improvements. Out of the initial allocation of $4.46 million for reconstructing 13 homes, only five households qualified for assistance due to eligibility criteria.
The project, initiated in July 2022, was completed ahead of the March 31, 2026 deadline. Additionally, a grant was combined with leftover funds from the fire mitigation efforts to enhance the Niland Wastewater Treatment Plant, which required significant upgrades. The remaining balance from grant allocations stands at approximately $367,000, which was approved for disencumbrance.
