A 240-foot Bailey Bridge on the Chilaw-Thoduwawa Road was inaugurated by Sri Lankan Minister Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathna and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha under India's post-Ditwah reconstruction assistance. This bridge restores a crucial transport link and supports local agriculture and fisheries. It is part of a $450 million reconstruction package following Cyclone Ditwah, with $30 million allocated for bridge restoration. The bridge was built by the Indian Army in coordination with Sri Lankan authorities and is the longest extra-wide Bailey Bridge in Sri Lanka.

The inauguration of a 240-foot Bailey Bridge on the Chilaw-Thoduwawa Road, connecting Thoduwawa and Iranawila, took place under India's post-Ditwah reconstruction program. The bridge, constructed by the Indian Army's Engineer Task Force, restores vital connectivity along the coastal corridor from Colombo to Puttalam and supports agriculture and fisheries.
It is part of a $450 million reconstruction package announced by India's External Affairs Minister, with $30 million designated for bridge restoration. Following Cyclone Ditwah's damage, Indian teams have assessed over 40 bridge sites and plan to build around 15 Bailey Bridges in the coming weeks.
