India Advances Space Sector Commercialisation Amid Reforms
Since 2020, India has implemented space reforms to enhance commercialisation, countering perceptions of privatisation. The 2023 National Space Policy promotes private sector participation alongside ISRO's focus on advanced R&D.

The Indian government has introduced space reforms since May 2020 as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat package, culminating in the 2023 National Space Policy. This policy designates ISRO to prioritize research and development of new space technologies while promoting private sector involvement in space innovation.
The government has allocated significant funds for space startups, including the INR 1,000 crore Antariksh Venture Capital Fund, although its first investments are delayed until 2027. The commercialisation of the space sector aims to meet expanding demands and address supply chain issues. As geopolitical tensions rise, India's focus on safeguarding intellectual property and fostering national interests in space remains critical.
