India Aims for 20 GW Distributed Storage by 2030 with V2G and BESS Technologies
India is targeting 20 GW of distributed energy storage by 2030, leveraging Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology and stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This approach aims to support the broader goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by managing renewable energy intermittency.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has introduced a regulatory framework to ensure project viability, featuring operational benchmarks for energy storage systems. Key initiatives include the deployment of V2G pilots with e-buses and BESS projects at utility substations. The government has implemented financial support measures to facilitate this transition, addressing economic and environmental challenges while enhancing grid reliability and renewable energy absorption.
