India Approves 250 MW Solar Power Project on Defence Land in Sitapur
The Defence Ministry has sanctioned a 250 MW solar power project with battery storage on 850 acres in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. This initiative, led by NTPC, aims to enhance energy security and reduce costs for defence establishments while promoting renewable energy use.

The Defence Ministry has approved a 250 MW solar power project with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on 850 acres of vacant defence land in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. Implemented by NTPC Limited, this project marks the first large-scale solar facility on defence land, focusing on optimal energy pricing and substantial cost savings for military installations while supporting national energy goals.
The project will integrate national security and environmental sustainability, ensuring reliable power supply during low solar generation periods. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the Defence Ministry's dependence on conventional grid power, delivering long-term financial benefits. This solar-plus-storage facility may serve as a model for future renewable energy projects on defence properties across India.
