India Launches PARAM SHAKTI Supercomputer at IIT-Madras for Defence Applications

India has unveiled PARAM SHAKTI, a 3.1 petaflop supercomputing facility at IIT-Madras, developed using indigenous RUDRA servers from C-DAC. The supercomputer can perform over 3.1 quadrillion calculations per second, positioning IIT-Madras among India's top academic computing centers.

PARAM SHAKTI supports diverse research areas including aerospace simulations, climate modeling, materials science, drug discovery, nuclear science, and combustion research. Its energy-efficient design achieves over 80% utilization, fostering innovation while minimizing operational costs.

The facility enhances India's defense capabilities, aids in advanced manufacturing, and promotes collaboration with organizations like DRDO and ISRO. PARAM SHAKTI is a critical step towards India's goal of exascale computing and supports national strategies for technological self-reliance.
