India-Nigeria Trade Relations Strengthened by Industrial Visits and Community Appeals
Indian High Commissioner Abhishek Singh emphasizes the importance of India-Nigeria trade, focusing on mining and steel industries, during recent visits to key industrial sites. In contrast, local leaders urge for the reopening of the Aluminium Smelter Company in Ikot Abasi to address economic hardships.

Ambassador Abhishek Singh highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance India-Nigeria trade relations during visits to industrial facilities, including African Natural Resources and Mines Limited (ANRML) and Abuja Steel Mills. ANRML has made a $600 million investment, marking it as one of Nigeria's largest non-oil FDIs, with a mining capacity exceeding 5 million tons per annum and employing over 4,000 individuals.
Conversely, community leaders in Ikot Abasi are advocating for the reopening of the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), which has been inactive since 2013 due to gas shortages and legal issues. They emphasize the economic significance of ALSCON and call for government intervention to resolve disputes hindering its operations, stressing the urgent need to revive the facility for local benefits.
