India Plans Integrated Rocket Force to Enhance Conventional Deterrence
India aims to establish an Integrated Rocket Force (IRF) to enhance its conventional military capabilities, as recent global conflicts highlight the need for advanced missile systems. The IRF will incorporate a mix of long-range cruise and ballistic missiles, targeting precision strikes in high-intensity warfare. Key initiatives include accelerating the development of BrahMos missiles, Indigenous Technology Cruise Missiles, and hypersonic weapons, alongside increasing stockpiles and production capacities for conventional munitions.

India is moving to establish an Integrated Rocket Force (IRF) to improve conventional deterrence through advanced missile systems. Recent global conflicts emphasize the operational need for a dedicated force equipped with long-range cruise and ballistic missiles for precision strikes.
The IRF will complement the existing Strategic Forces Command, focusing on high-intensity conventional operations. Initiatives include the development of the new BrahMos missile with an 800 km range, Indigenous Technology Cruise Missiles with a 1,000 km range, and next-generation ballistic missiles like BM-04 with a 1,500 km range.
The DRDO is also advancing hypersonic weapon capabilities to evade defense systems. Additionally, enhancing the range of the Pinaka artillery systems is considered essential for the IRF.
