India to Launch Barrier-Free Tolling by December to Cut Logistics Costs
India plans to implement a seamless tolling system on national highways by December, utilizing ANPR and FASTag technologies. This initiative aims to significantly reduce logistics costs, aligning with the country's economic growth objectives.

India will introduce barrier-free tolling on national highways by December, leveraging technologies like Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and RFID-based Electronic Toll Collection (FASTag). This system facilitates automated toll payments, potentially lowering logistics costs to single digits, a critical step for India's goal of becoming a USD 5-trillion economy.
Current logistics costs in India stand at 10%, down from 16% due to infrastructure improvements. The initiative will also address the reliance on fossil fuel imports, highlighting a shift towards alternative fuels and green hydrogen. India's logistics costs are currently higher than those in the US, Europe, and China, indicating room for improvement.
