India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce Launched; India Achieves 272 GW Non-Fossil Fuel Power Capacity
India's Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that the country has surpassed 272 GW of non-fossil fuel generation capacity, including 141 GW from solar and 55 GW from wind energy. This milestone was highlighted during the launch of the India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce, which aims to support India's renewable energy goals of 500 GW by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070. Key officials from the UK attended the event, emphasizing collaboration in offshore wind development.

This task force seeks to enhance collaboration for India's renewable energy objectives, which include achieving 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
In the current fiscal year, India added 35 GW of solar and 4.61 GW of wind capacity. The taskforce will address strategic planning, infrastructure, and financing for offshore wind, with promising zones identified off Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. A funding scheme of ₹7,453 crore has been introduced to support early projects.
