The Indian Navy is anticipated to receive its first twin-seat Rafale-M trainer aircraft between August and September 2026, accelerating its transition to advanced carrier-capable aviation. These initial four Rafale-M variants will support pilot and crew training from shore facilities, ahead of the expected mid-2028 delivery of combat-configured aircraft.
The Navy's acquisition plan includes 26 Rafale-M jets, enhancing operational capabilities and facilitating training on new avionics and maintenance systems. This shift from the MiG-29K fleet allows for improved multi-role operations, interoperability with the Indian Air Force's Rafale variants, and supports India's broader defense modernization efforts.
