Indian Oil Officers' Association Opposes Abolition of Key Director Posts
The Indian Oil Officers' Association has urged oil minister Hardeep Puri to intervene against the proposed abolition of three key director positions—director (pipelines), director (R&D), and director (planning & business development)—which they argue are vital for operational safety, innovation, and strategic growth. With the director (pipelines) position unfilled since July 2024, the association emphasizes the necessity of these roles for ensuring accountability and expertise in safety governance across the company's extensive pipeline network.

The Indian Oil Officers' Association has requested intervention from oil minister Hardeep Puri against plans to abolish three director-level positions on the company's board, citing their importance for operational safety, innovation, and strategic growth. The posts in question are director (pipelines), director (R&D), and director (planning & business development), with the director (pipelines) position vacant since July 2024.
The association argues that these roles ensure accountability and expertise in high-safety areas. Indian Oil operates over 20,000 km of pipelines across 21 states, requiring board oversight for safety governance and regulatory compliance. The R&D division has filed 1,866 patents and focuses on areas such as green hydrogen and carbon capture, necessitating dedicated leadership for effective guidance.
