Indian Space Association Proposes New Space Act and Financial Incentives for 2026-27 Budget

SPACE ECONOMY

The Indian Space Association (ISpA) has submitted a wishlist for the 2026-27 Union Budget, calling for a new Space Act, formal infrastructure status for the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), and enhanced fiscal and regulatory support. ISpA aims to position India among the top three spacefaring nations, seeking measures like a productivity linked incentive (PLI) scheme, a five-year tax holiday, and increased foreign direct investment (FDI) limits.

The proposal emphasizes recognizing space infrastructure as critical to unlock private investment and competitiveness, alongside mandating that at least 50% of government procurement for space services be sourced from Indian private entities. Other requests include tax credits for R&D, accelerated depreciation for space assets, and special economic zones for space tech parks. ISpA also advocates for international collaboration and a stable regulatory environment to support the growing space sector.
