Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission Approves Indiana Michigan Power's Expedited Generation Resource Plan
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission has approved Indiana Michigan Power's Expedited Generation Resource Plan, allowing for a 5% increase in generation capacity to meet projected electricity demand, which is expected to nearly double by 2030. The plan emphasizes a transition to a diverse energy mix, including wind, solar, and battery storage, while managing costs through gradual implementation and excess revenue from large customers. I&M will also ensure transparency by publicly disclosing project costs and their impact on utility bills.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has approved Indiana Michigan Power's (I&M) Expedited Generation Resource Plan, enabling the utility to address projected load growth. This plan, established under a 2025 state law, permits a 5% increase in generation or 150 megawatts.
I&M anticipates its electricity demand will nearly double by 2030, driven by developments such as the Google data center in Fort Wayne. The company aims to transition from building new natural gas plants to utilizing a mix of gas, power purchase agreements, wind, solar, and battery storage.
To mitigate customer impacts, I&M plans to spread costs over time and utilize excess revenue from large customers.
