Indianapolis Council to Discuss Zoning Regulations for Data Centers in January Meeting

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

A committee of city-county councilors in Indianapolis will meet on January 28 to discuss zoning regulations for data centers. The meeting will include testimony from the city's Office of Sustainability and experts from the National Laboratory of the Rockies, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the Hoosier Environmental Council.

Public comments will be permitted. The discussion is part of a broader debate on data centers, which proponents argue promote economic development, while critics raise concerns over job creation, water usage, and increased energy costs.

Local opposition is noted in Martindale Brightwood, Pike Township, and Decatur Township against proposed data center developments. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the City-County Building.
