India's Defence Minister Announces 2,200 Tech Transfers to Enhance Defence Production
The Indian government has prioritized defense research, facilitating the transfer of 2,200 technologies from DRDO to various industries. With a record domestic defense production of ₹1.54 lakh crore for FY 2025-26 and a focus on innovative technologies, India's defense sector is poised for significant growth and international partnerships.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that the Indian government has transferred 2,200 technologies from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to industries, with over ₹4,500 crore utilized from a 25% allocated defence R&D budget. Domestic defence production reached ₹1.54 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, while defence exports hit ₹38,424 crore.
A new Transfer of Technology policy has waived fees for development partners. Singh emphasized the importance of adapting to technological changes in warfare and supported sectors like directed energy and hypersonic weapons.
Partnerships with foreign firms, including those from Germany, are being encouraged, highlighting India's rising stature in the global defence market. Continued investment in innovation initiatives is critical for sustaining growth.
