India's First Hydrogen Locomotive Trial Begins in Jind, Haryana
India has initiated a trial run of its first hydrogen locomotive in Jind, Haryana. The engine began its journey at 7 am, initially assisted by a diesel engine, and is being tested for various technical aspects. If successful, it may enter regular service on the Jind-Sonipat route. Developed at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, the locomotive boasts a 1200-horsepower engine with a maximum speed of 150 km/h, aiming to reduce travel time significantly.
The trial run of India's first hydrogen locomotive commenced at Jind in Haryana. The engine departed from Jind yard at 7 am, initially assisted by a diesel engine, and continued towards Sonipat at 8:25 am.
Key technical aspects, including engine speed, fuel consumption, and safety standards, are monitored closely. The trial aims to test the locomotive's ability to operate solely on hydrogen gas. Developed at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, the locomotive is 1200-horsepower with a maximum speed of 150 km/h. If successful, it will reduce the Jind to Sonipat journey from two hours to under one hour.
