India's Mining Sector Accelerates Green Transformation to Meet 2030 Carbon Reduction Goals
India's mining sector is advancing its green transformation to achieve a 45% reduction in carbon emissions intensity by 2030, in line with the nation's Sustainable Development Goals. The sector is embracing sustainable practices, including renewable energy adoption and the use of AI and ML technologies, while also adhering to the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report framework to enhance global ESG compliance. The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to cut nearly 50 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually by 2030, underscoring the mining industry's critical role in decarbonization efforts.

India aims to reduce its carbon emissions intensity by 45% by the end of 2030, with its mining sector adopting sustainable practices aligned with the country's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Following the 2019 update of the National Mineral Policy, the sector is focusing on green technology, renewable energy adoption, and community development.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in January 2023, targets cutting nearly 50 MMT of greenhouse gas emissions annually by 2030, highlighting the mining sector's role in decarbonization. Mining companies are implementing renewable energy, recycling waste into sustainable materials, and utilizing AI and ML technologies to improve efficiency and safety. Additionally, they are adhering to the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR) framework to align with global ESG standards and integrate the UN's 17 SDGs into their strategies, enhancing sustainability and international trust.
