India's National Green Hydrogen Mission Targets 125 GW Renewable Capacity by 2030

The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) aims to establish India as a leader in clean hydrogen by building a capacity of about 125 GW of renewable energy for hydrogen production by 2030, backed by investments exceeding Rs 8,000 billion. As of May 2025, 19 companies have been assigned a combined capacity of 862,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production, with 15 firms securing an electrolyzer manufacturing capacity of 3,000 MW.

NTPC is developing a green hydrogen ecosystem in Leh, featuring a 1.70 MW solar plant and hydrogen-powered FCEV buses. Reliance Industries is targeting 3 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen production by 2032, integrating efforts with solar projects in Gujarat and large-scale battery factories.

BPCL has formed a joint venture with Sembcorp to explore renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, reporting revenues of Rs 1,216,047 million in Q2 FY26. Overall, these initiatives are supported by government policies and industry partnerships.
