Indo-German Working Group on Automotive Meets to Discuss Industry Cooperation and Supply Chain Resilience
The 17th Meeting of the Indo-German Working Group on Automotive, held on January 20, 2026, in New Delhi, focused on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the automotive sector, addressing supply chain resilience, carbon dioxide regulations, and powertrain diversification. Key participants emphasized the importance of sourcing materials for electric vehicles and transitioning to sustainable mobility technologies. The meeting highlighted a projected bilateral trade of USD 33.4 billion for 2024-25, alongside significant German investment plans in India.

The 17th Meeting of the Indo-German Working Group on Automotive took place on 20 January 2026 in New Delhi, co-chaired by Hanif Qureshi and Bettina Lauer. Participants addressed key topics including the automotive industry status in both countries, supply chain resilience, carbon dioxide regulations, powertrain diversification, and taxation reforms.
The meeting reaffirmed commitments to sustainable mobility and innovation. Notable attendees included Vikrampati Singhania and Santosh Iyer from India, and Angela Mans and Hildegard Müller from Germany.
Discussions highlighted the need for cooperation in sourcing critical materials for electric vehicles and the diversification of powertrains to include battery electric and hydrogen technologies. Bilateral trade was estimated at USD 33.4 billion for 2024-25, with significant German investment plans in India noted. The working group will continue to meet regularly to enhance collaboration in automotive sectors.
