Indonesia Enhances Palm Oil By-Product Handicraft Industry for Economic Growth
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is focusing on palm oil by-product handicrafts to boost the national creative sector, aiming for sustainable economic growth. This initiative is expected to create business opportunities and strengthen the circular economy, reflecting a 4.08% increase in handicraft exports to $165.27 million in Q1 2026.

The Ministry of Industry reported that Indonesia's export value of the handicraft sector reached $165.27 million in Q1 2026, marking a 4.08% increase from the previous year. To further develop this sector, the ministry is enhancing the handicraft industry ecosystem through human resource capacity building, market access expansion, and product innovation.
A recent workshop funded by the Indonesia Plantation Fund took place from June 22 to 26, 2026, focusing on creating woven crafts and art paper from palm oil waste. Thirty participants from various districts attended, receiving training aimed at integrating circular economy principles into local industries. This strategy is designed to improve community welfare and reduce waste, ultimately fostering sustainable industrial practices.
