Indonesia Implements Five-Pillar Cement Decarbonization Strategy
Indonesia's Ministry of Industry launches a five-pillar strategy to decarbonize the cement sector, targeting emission reduction and carbon neutrality. This initiative is crucial for reducing environmental impact while enhancing the industry's economic contributions.

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry has introduced a five-pillar strategy aimed at decarbonizing the national cement industry, prioritizing emission reductions. Key components include energy efficiency, material substitution with biomass and hydrogen, process upgrades, electrification, and carbon capture technology.
In 2025, the sector achieved a growth rate of 6.16%, with investments totaling Rp25 trillion (approximately US$1.45 billion) and exports of US$1.79 billion. Indonesia's cement production capacity stands at 121.66 million tons annually, meeting domestic demand of 64 million tons and maintaining exports valued at US$443 million. The strategy reflects the industry's shift towards sustainability amid rising urbanization and digitalization pressures.
