Port of Klaipėda Advances Green Methanol Bunkering Vessel Concept

The Port of Klaipėda is working on a green methanol bunkering vessel concept capable of operating in shallow waters, with a capacity of 800 metric tonnes. This vessel could supply up to 250,000 metric tonnes of green methanol annually, addressing the growing demand for alternative fuels in shipping.

A collaboration with 14 partners has assessed market potential, regulatory frameworks, and supply chain logistics for green methanol, which is expected to be in demand from local vessels and offshore wind service ships. The project aims to position Klaipėda as a competitive port for alternative fuel bunkering, capitalizing on its existing green hydrogen production capabilities. This initiative could create new revenue streams and enhance the Port's role in the energy sector.
