Inductive Charging for Electric Vehicles Approved in Switzerland
Empa's inductive charging technology for electric vehicles has received road approval in Switzerland, enhancing convenience and efficiency. This advancement could facilitate vehicle batteries acting as flexible energy storage solutions, contributing to the energy transition.

The Swiss Federal Office of Energy and Eniwa AG supported Empa in testing inductive charging for electric vehicles under real conditions. The technology achieves approximately 90% efficiency, comparable to traditional cable systems, and allows vehicles to connect automatically to the grid when parked.
The converted vehicles have been granted individual road use approval, marking a significant milestone in wireless charging. Inductive charging can enable electric cars to act as mobile energy storage, optimizing renewable energy use and reducing electricity costs through intelligent charging strategies.
