Infineon Launches 24 kW SiC Backup Unit for AI Data Centers
Infineon Technologies AG has introduced a 24-kW battery backup unit (BBU) designed for high-voltage DC architectures in AI data centers. This innovative design, which utilizes 650 V and 1200 V silicon carbide technology, addresses critical infrastructure needs as data centers shift to higher-voltage power distribution.

Infineon Technologies AG has developed a 24-kW battery backup unit (BBU) reference design for AI data centers, directly operating from an 800 V DC bus. This design achieves a power density of 450 W/in and efficiency exceeding 99 percent, critical for the transition to higher-voltage DC distribution.
The architecture employs a multi-level, multiphase non-isolated system that integrates components to minimize size and optimize performance. Key features include a compact 112 x 88 x 118 mm module, low conduction losses, and rapid energy transfer during outages.
The design leverages Infineon's CoolSiC MOSFET technology, which supports high efficiencies and thermal resilience. As data centers increasingly rely on AI, the transition to robust BBU systems will enhance power reliability and efficiency, addressing dynamic power demands.
