Infomerics Ratings' Chief Economist Highlights Importance of Infrastructure Fund Utilization in India
Dr. Manoranjan Sharma, Chief Economist at Infomerics Ratings, emphasized the significance of the Indian government's ₹11 lakh-crore infrastructure outlay, noting its potential to enhance connectivity and efficiency through improvements in highways and railways.
He stated that effective implementation and fund utilization are crucial for maximizing the impact of these investments. Sharma highlighted that infrastructure spending typically yields a higher economic multiplier effect, suggesting that every ₹100 spent could generate an economic boost of up to ₹250.
He indicated that if the investments made in 2025 demonstrate positive outcomes, the government may prioritize and potentially increase infrastructure spending in 2026. Additionally, he noted the government's fiscal constraints and the potential for greater private sector involvement in railway projects. Sharma also pointed to a growing focus on renewable energy as part of India's sustainability goals, with anticipated funding and tax incentives for sectors like solar and wind energy.
