INNIO Jenbacher Launches Synthetic Gas Engine Oil for AI-Driven Power Demands
INNIO Jenbacher has developed a fully synthetic gas engine oil to meet the rapid power demands of AI applications. This advancement is crucial as data centers in the U.S. are projected to increase power consumption from 40 GW in 2024 to over 100 GW by 2030, necessitating high-performance lubricants.

INNIO Jenbacher has introduced a synthetic gas engine oil designed for fast-response power demands associated with AI-driven data centers. Current projections indicate that data centers will require over 100 GW by 2030, marking a 2.5-fold increase from 2024 levels.
Traditional lubricants are inadequate for the rapid ramp-up conditions of AI workloads, potentially leading to increased wear and reduced service life. The new formulation offers a viscosity index exceeding 148, suitable for high brake mean effective pressure (BMEP) applications, and has been validated through extensive testing.
This lubricant allows for operational flexibility, including blending with hydrogen, which supports sustainable fuel transitions. However, scaling production to meet demand may face challenges due to competition for high-performance base oils with the automotive sector.
