Innospace Signs Agreement for Orbital Launches from Portugal’s Azores by 2030

SPACE ECONOMY

Innospace has signed an agreement on January 8, 2025, making it the first operator for orbital launches from the Malbusca region in the Azores, Portugal. The agreement is valid until 2030, with the inaugural flight of the Hanbit rocket from Santa Maria planned for 2026.

The Atlantic Spaceport Consortium (ASC), responsible for building the Portuguese spaceport, has been active since 2019 and received a construction license in August 2025. The launch center will be located approximately 1500 km from mainland Portugal.

In July 2025, ASC partnered with Polish company SpaceForest for a suborbital flight of the Perun rocket, also scheduled for 2026. This launch will facilitate scientific research in microgravity and will carry 50 kg of experimental equipment. The initiative aims to enhance Portugal's status in the global space sector.
