Iran Conflict Disrupts Global Sulfur Exports
The ongoing conflict in Iran severely impacts sulfur exports, crucial for various industries. This disruption threatens supply chains for fertilizers, semiconductors, and mining operations.

The war in Iran has halted sulfur exports, with no vessels carrying sulfur leaving the Persian Gulf since hostilities began. The region accounts for nearly 25% of global sulfur production and 44% of its export, according to US Geological Survey and Argus Media.
The last known shipment left on March 8, 2026, with Chinese ownership, while Iranian vessels complicate tracking efforts due to AIS transponder shutdowns. Traditionally viewed as abundant, sulfur is now deemed a strategic commodity, essential for various applications, including copper and nickel production, and is increasingly significant in uranium and cobalt processing.
