Iran Conflict Spurs India to Focus on Indigenous Semiconductor Development, Says L&T Executive
The Iran conflict is prompting India to enhance its semiconductor design capabilities and sovereign electronics production. L&T's Sanjay Gupta highlights this as an opportunity for Indian firms to innovate and reduce dependence on foreign technology.

Sanjay Gupta from L&T Semiconductor Technologies emphasizes the Iran crisis as a catalyst for India to accelerate indigenous semiconductor design. He notes that geopolitical tensions have disrupted global supply chains, creating opportunities for Indian companies to focus on developing local products, particularly in sectors like data centers, automotive electronics, and renewable energy.
Gupta stresses the importance of reducing reliance on foreign technology, asserting that India should prioritize strategic areas such as design and fabrication. He also calls for an increase in the current Rs 15 crore cap under ISM 1.0 to better support startups. Gupta believes that with the right partnerships, India can replicate its IT success in the semiconductor domain.
