Ireland Appoints Fisheries and Coastal Liaison Officers for National DMAP in Offshore Wind Energy
The Irish Government has appointed Captain Brian Fitzgerald and Mr. Mark O'Reilly as national liaison officers for offshore wind, representing fisheries and coastal communities. Fitzgerald will lead the Community Liaison Service for the National Designated Marine Area Plan (DMAP), while O'Reilly will manage the Fisheries Liaison Service through Fishery Liaisons Ltd.
The DMAP aims to establish a spatial planning policy framework for offshore renewable energy and designate offshore windfarm sites in Ireland's maritime area. Public consultations are scheduled for 2026 and 2027 to engage stakeholders.
MacCabe Durney Barnes, in partnership with AARC, will serve as the project manager. The appointments were made following a public procurement process by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment.
