Ireland's Strategic Investment in ESA Amid Record €22.3 Billion Funding Approval

Ireland has committed over €170 million to ESA initiatives, with Irish companies securing a record €24 million in contracts in 2024. A revision of Ireland's National Space Strategy is underway, reflecting its proactive role in the evolving European space sector.

The European Space Agency (ESA) secured an unprecedented €22.3 billion in funding for programs over three years during the ministerial council meeting in Bremen, Germany. This funding supports ESA's Strategy 2040, which focuses on autonomy, commercial competitiveness, and international partnerships.
Ireland reaffirmed its commitment to ESA, allocating over €170 million across various sectors including Earth observation and telecommunications. In 2024, Irish companies secured a record €24 million in ESA contracts.
A refresh of Ireland's National Space Strategy, originally published in 2019, is under consideration, with 95% of its goals already met by 2023. The upcoming strategy will determine how boldly Ireland will pursue its role in the evolving European space sector.
