Islander Reels Implements Water Recycling Technology with Camosun College
Islander Reels has partnered with Camosun College to implement a closed-loop water recycling system, aiming to reduce water consumption by approximately 1,500 liters monthly. The project, supported by a $20,000 grant from the National Research Council, enhances sustainable manufacturing practices.

Islander Reels, part of J.S. Foster Corporation, has introduced a closed-loop water recycling system, developed in collaboration with Camosun Innovates. The initiative is projected to reduce water use by about 1,500 liters per month by reclaiming manufacturing residuals and filtering water for reuse.
The project received funding of $20,000 from the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program. Involvement from Camosun College students was integral to the development process, demonstrating the role of applied research in fostering sustainable manufacturing solutions. This project may set a precedent for similar initiatives in the industry, enhancing water efficiency and reducing waste.
