Israeli Army Chief Eyal Zamir Warns of Collapse Due to Personnel Shortages
Israeli Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir warned the government that the Israeli Defense Forces could collapse due to increasing operational demands and significant personnel shortages. He called for new laws on conscription, reserve service, and extending mandatory service duration. Critics, including opposition members, accused the government of neglecting security and urged efforts to mobilize ultra-Orthodox men. The government attributed the situation to legal blockages and emphasized its commitment to pass relevant legislation.

Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir warned that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) could collapse under operational pressures due to personnel shortages. He called for legislation on conscription and extending mandatory service.
Zamir stated that without these changes, the IDF would struggle with routine missions. Opposition members criticized the government for neglecting security and failing to mobilize ultra-Orthodox recruits.
The Prime Minister's office blamed legal obstacles for recruitment issues. Zamir indicated an urgent need for 12,000 recruits, particularly combat soldiers, amid ongoing military challenges. He proposed extending mandatory service from 30 to 36 months, warning that failure to address personnel shortages could impair operational readiness.
