ISRO to Develop Third Launch Pad at Shriharikota Spaceport in Four Years
ISRO is set to develop a third launch pad at the Shriharikota spaceport, with an expected completion date in four years. This new facility will enable the launch of larger satellites weighing over 12,000-14,000 kg into various orbits, as the agency identifies vendors for the project. The Shriharikota complex, operational since 1971 and renamed the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in 2002, has undergone significant expansions to support satellite launches.

ISRO is developing a third launch pad at the Shriharikota spaceport, aiming for completion in four years. The agency is currently identifying vendors to support this project, which is essential for launching larger satellites weighing over 12,000-14,000 kg into various orbits.
The Shriharikota complex, which spans 175 sq km and is located 135 km east of Chennai, has been operational since October 1971 and has expanded over the years to accommodate various satellite launches. The spaceport was renamed as Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in 2002, honoring former ISRO Chairman Professor Satish Dhawan.
