Italia Nostra Opposes Offshore Wind Farm Project North of Elba Island

WIND ENERGY

Italia Nostra has expressed opposition to the proposed offshore wind farm in the Tyrrhenian Sea between Gorgona and Capraia Islands, part of a project developed by Atis Floating Wind, a joint venture of Eni Plenitude and Simply Blue Group. The project plans to install 48 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 18 megawatts, totaling 864 megawatts, over 20 nautical miles from Livorno, Italy.

The project is currently undergoing an environmental impact assessment by the Italian Ministry of the Environment. Italia Nostra highlights ecological concerns due to the project's proximity to the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and the Cetacean Sanctuary, as well as existing maritime traffic.

They also raise issues regarding the cumulative environmental impact and stress that the region already faces significant environmental and infrastructure burdens. The organization calls for the project to be rejected or fundamentally revised.
