Italy Launches IPCEI Initiatives for BioChem and Circular Advanced Materials
Italy's Ministry of Enterprises has announced two significant initiatives under the IPCEI framework: BioChem and Circular Advanced Materials (CAM), aimed at enhancing sustainable chemistry and circular economy practices. Companies must submit project proposals by September 2026, with minimum funding requirements set to stimulate international collaboration across EU member states.

The Italian Ministry of Enterprises has issued calls for interest for two Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) targeting the biotech chemical sector (BIOCHEM_IPCEI2026) and Circular Advanced Materials (CAM_IPCEI2026). Proposals for BioChem are due by September 24, 2026, while CAM submissions are required by September 22, 2026.
Each project must involve partners from at least four EU member states. The IPCEI framework, established under EU treaty provisions, allows state aid to support high-risk industrial initiatives. Projects must meet a funding gap criterion and can involve individual or integrated project approaches, with minimum eligible costs of €35 million.
Additionally, the CAM initiative focuses on materials designed to align with circular economy principles. The outcomes of these initiatives could significantly impact EU industrial independence and sustainability efforts.
