ITC Reroutes Meridian Township Transmission Line Project Following Community Opposition
ITC has shifted a planned 345kV transmission line project to bypass Meridian Township after significant public backlash. The rerouting addresses concerns about ecological impacts and the integrity of local neighborhoods.

The electricity transmission company ITC has revised its construction plans for a 345kV line project, now extending approximately 50 miles from the Oneida station to a new station near Sabine Lake in Eaton County. This change follows unanimous opposition from the Meridian Township Board, which raised alarms about potential ecological damage, including threats to parks and endangered species.
Concerns included impacts on critical wetlands and required tree clearing that could alter local hydrology. The project faced significant public opposition, prompting ITC to release a revised map that excludes the township. The outcome illustrates the influence of community input on infrastructure projects.
