J. Mendes Unveils Green Steel Initiative at Mining Processing Latam Forum 2026
J. Mendes announced a project for high-quality iron ore production aimed at meeting direct reduction market demands and global decarbonization efforts, targeting an annual output of 5.5 million tons of pellet feed. The initiative employs advanced beneficiation techniques, enhancing metal recovery and producing premium concentrates with over 68% iron content, contributing to lower carbon emissions in steel production.

At the Mining Processing Latam Forum 2026, J. Mendes outlined a project designed to produce high-quality iron ore, targeting an expansion to 5.5 million tons per year of pellet feed. The project utilizes efficient beneficiation methods for compact and friable itabirites from Ferro+ Mineração, incorporating comminution, high-intensity magnetic separation, and flotation.
This integrated system is expected to maximize metal recovery and produce premium concentrates with over 68% iron and low silica and alumina levels. By reducing impurities, J. Mendes aims to support the steel industry in achieving lower carbon emissions, particularly through direct reduction processes and electric arc furnaces.
The initiative positions J. Mendes to meet rising global demands for quality inputs in green steel production, reinforcing its strategic importance in the mining sector.
