Jamaica Launches Phase VIII of Bauxite Community Development Programme to Improve Water Access
STRATEGIC MINERALS
The Jamaican government has initiated Phase VIII of the Bauxite Community Development Programme (BCDP) to expand access to potable water in bauxite-producing communities. Minister Floyd Green highlighted the need to address long-standing infrastructure gaps exacerbated by mining activities.
This phase will focus resources on practical water solutions, including an ongoing project in Hammonds with Jamalco. Elected officials are urged to submit proposals to facilitate further community development and close remaining gaps in water access, reinforcing the strategy to reinvest mining resources into essential infrastructure.
