Jammu & Kashmir Advances Mini Hydel Projects to Boost Renewable Energy Capacity
Jammu & Kashmir is enhancing its renewable energy capacity by accelerating the development of Mini Hydel Projects (MHPs). The government has allocated 56 MHPs with a combined capacity of 147 MW, of which seven projects totaling 35.25 MW are already commissioned. Additional hydroelectric projects totaling 21.45 MW are in the final tendering stage. The Hydro Power Policy (2011) and other supportive policies aim to diversify the energy mix and improve energy security in the region.

Jammu & Kashmir is advancing the development of Mini Hydel Projects (MHPs) as part of its renewable energy strategy. The government has allocated 56 MHPs under the Independent Power Producer mode, totaling 147 MW capacity, with seven projects of 35.25 MW commissioned.
These include projects in Ganderbal, Anantnag, and Ramban, aimed at improving electricity reliability in remote areas. An additional 12 projects with 21.45 MW are in the final tendering stage. Supported by the Hydro Power Policy (2011) and other policies, these initiatives seek to diversify the energy mix and enhance energy security.
